The Kununurra Courthouse is a landmark civic building set within the striking natural landscape of the Kimberley region. Designed as a vital community anchor for a small and geographically remote town, the courthouse balances its formal role with a strong sense of welcome and belonging.

The interior is both dignified and warm, with acoustically excellent spaces that support clear communication and calm, comfortable waiting areas. Referencing the jagged rock formations of the surrounding country, the wall linings and seating zigzag along the undulating perimeter walls to create rhythm and movement.

Natural timbers, including jarrah, Tasmanian ash and blackwood, are used throughout to echo the landscape's colours and textures. The result is a building that feels grounded in place while meeting the functional demands of contemporary justice infrastructure.

Our
Contribution

We supplied timber acoustic wall panels and coordinated timber seating elements that define the character of the waiting areas. Working closely with the project team, we procured a solution that delivers high acoustic performance while expressing the distinctive geometry and material warmth the design required. Our involvement ensured that technical performance, aesthetic intent, and durability were all carefully aligned.

What We Procured

  • Acoustic wall & ceiling systems
  • MDF panels
Materials were manufactured through our partner network, drawing on more than 50 years of Australian experience in engineered acoustic and architectural systems.

Technical Requirements Supported

The project required the following:
  • Fire ratings and documentation
  • Acoustic performance requirements
  • ESG, sustainability and Green Star
  • Supply Nation certification
  • Panel layouts, prototyping, or pre-installation coordination
Myee Collective coordinated the documentation required for Group fire ratings, acoustic performance, sustainability certifications and delivery sequencing to support project timelines.

Community
Outcomes

The completed courthouse offers a calm, comfortable environment where residents can engage with legal processes in a space that feels respectful and welcoming. Enhanced acoustic performance supports clear communication, privacy, and reduced stress for all users, from staff and officials to community members attending proceedings. By drawing on local landscape references through its timber forms and finishes, the building reinforces a sense of identity and connection to country, making this essential civic facility feel deeply rooted in the community it serves.
