Green Square Public School & Community Spaces is a landmark educational and civic facility created to serve one of Australia’s fastest-growing and most densely populated urban areas. Developed in partnership with School Infrastructure NSW and the City of Sydney, the four-storey building accommodates up to 600 students.
It offers shared community spaces that remain active beyond school hours. Designed by BVN through the 2019 Design Excellence Competition, the project makes clever use of its L-shaped site, integrating seamlessly into the revitalised Green Square precinct and the former Royal South Sydney Hospital grounds.
The ground floor functions as a true community hub, with four multipurpose halls for hire, a games court, and the striking Indigenous mural The Belly of the Feast by Archibald Prize-winning artist Blak Douglas, celebrating the enduring connection of Aboriginal peoples to Country.
Together, these elements create a dynamic, multi-use environment that honours local heritage while supporting contemporary patterns of learning, gathering and play.
Our
Contribution
We supplied thousands of square metres of acoustic panelling, providing exceptional performance with an NRC of 0.75, while meeting stringent compliance, sustainability and design requirements.
Locally manufactured in Sydney and backed by GECA, FSC® and Declare certifications, the product supplied supported Green Star objectives. It enabled fast lead times, on-call support and smooth coordination during construction.
What We Procured
- Acoustic wall & ceiling systems
- MDF panels
Technical Requirements Supported
The project required the following:- Fire ratings and documentation
- Acoustic performance requirements
- ESG, sustainability and Green Star
- Supply Nation certification
- Panel layouts, prototyping, or pre-installation coordination
Community
Outcomes
Students, teachers and community users benefit from environments where speech intelligibility is improved, noise is controlled, and large shared spaces remain comfortable even at peak use. The use of transparently certified, locally manufactured materials reinforces the project’s sustainability goals.
It supports the broader Green Square urban renewal vision, contributing to healthier indoor environments and reduced environmental impact. In uniting high-performance acoustics, design excellence and cultural storytelling—including the celebration of Aboriginal history through public art—the facility becomes more than a school: it is a community anchor that supports connection, pride and long-term social value.
