The Canberra Hospital Expansion is the largest healthcare infrastructure initiative ever undertaken by the ACT Government, purpose-built to meet the Territory’s current and future health needs.

Designed by BVN Architecture and delivered by Multiplex, it is Australia’s first fully electric hospital building powered entirely by renewable energy, avoiding approximately 1,886 tonnes of carbon emissions annually—the equivalent of taking 780 cars off Canberra’s roads each year.

Sustainability was embedded into every stage of delivery, from the use of electrified cranes to locally produced low-carbon concrete. Social procurement and Indigenous inclusion were also central, with Decor Systems’ Supply Nation Certification helping Multiplex achieve its targets while supporting First Nations participation in the project.

Our
Contribution

Decor Systems played a key role in shaping the hospital’s acoustic and aesthetic experience, supplying a suite of high-performance, eco-conscious acoustic solutions, including Arktura, Zen, Zen Micro, Vogl and DecorZen panels, tailored to the unique needs of each space.

Working closely with BVN, Multiplex and Sunshine Contracting, we curated product combinations that deliver targeted sound absorption, visual calm and long-term durability across public, clinical and circulation areas. As the exclusive supplier of Arktura in Australia, we also enabled a sculptural bronze metal lobby ceiling that doubles as a striking design feature and functional soundscape.

What We Procured

  • Acoustic wall & ceiling systems
  • Fibre cement panels
  • Metal feature ceiling
  • MDF panels
Most materials were manufactured through our partner network, drawing on more than 50 years of Australian experience in engineered acoustic and architectural systems.

Technical Requirements Supported

The project required the following:
  • Fire ratings and documentation
  • Acoustic performance requirements
  • ESG, sustainability or Green Star
  • Supply Nation certification
  • Panel layouts, prototyping, or pre-installation coordination
Myee Collective coordinated the documentation required for Group fire ratings, acoustic performance, sustainability certifications and delivery sequencing to support project timelines.

Community
Outcomes

The result is a hospital environment that actively supports patient recovery and staff wellbeing through carefully managed acoustics, reducing stress in waiting areas, improving privacy at receptions and controlling noise in busy clinical zones.

Natural timber finishes, calming colour palettes and sculptural ceiling elements soften the experience of a high-intensity healthcare setting, helping visitors and patients feel more at ease.

The use of GECA- and LEED-certified products, low-carbon materials and fully electric building services significantly reduces the environmental footprint, contributing to cleaner air and a more sustainable future for the Canberra community.

By integrating social procurement and Indigenous inclusion alongside sustainability and design excellence, the project delivers not just a larger hospital, but a healthier, more equitable and environmentally responsible place of care.
